Stillmeadow Finnsheep
The search for the ideal farm began in 1992 using topographic maps. A love of shepherding encouraged searching for a south-facing pastured hill bordered by a creek, preferably with an existing house and enough acreage to allow a flock of thirty Finnsheep. We found 38 acres, the remnant of a heritage farm, within thirty miles of Syracuse, NY. By 1994 the flock had begun with purebred Finns and I’ve concentrated since then on raising the most maternal ewes and genetically diverse rams that present solid breeding stock in a full rainbow of natural colors. Finnsheep are known best for having a great number of lambs, generally triplets to quintuplets in my flock. Of equal note is their amazing friendliness and soft, lustrous fleece which has encouraged many fiber flocks to develop. Having been a hand spinner and weaver for most of my life, when I discovered Finnsheep my future path was set. Our lambs are born in April and grow quickly, enabling most to gain new homes with eager folks throughout the USA by July.
