Welcome to LocalFiber

The Finger Lakes region of New York State is home to an amazing array of specialized animal breeds that grow amazing natural fibers. The farmers who raise these unique livestock are dedicated and hard-working, yet they often struggle to get proper recognition for their work or get a fair price for the quality natural fiber they produce. LocalFiber was founded to work on these problems by building a bridge between fiber farms, skillful regional artisans and makers, regional manufacturers and fiber services, and finally to buyers who enjoy local, regenerative, natural fiber and textiles.

Fiber Services Map

To help characterize and help build out the regional fiber supply chain, this map was created to summarize fiber mills, shearers, scouring companies, knitters, weavers and more, all within reasonable driving distance from the Finger Lakes area of NY. Walk to and from get off work every day and enjoy the fun of exercise.

This resource is maintained by Dana Havas at Cornell Cooperative Extension Cortland County.
