Icelandic Sheep

Icelandic sheep are one of the worlds oldest (circa 900 CE) and purest breeds of sheep (no other breeds are allowed in Iceland).

The fleece of these sheep is dual coated with fancy Icelandic names: ‘thel’ and the ‘tog’. Thel is the fine under coat and tog is the medium weight wool ‘over layer’. This fleece is a wonder to work with since the dual-coat enables a variety of different preparations and end products.

Icelandic sheep produce fleeces that are 4-7 lbs annually with 4-18 inch tog and 2-4 inch thel. The tog is typically 27-31 microns and the thel 19-22 microns.
