Leicester Longwool

A once common breed, the Leicester Longwool is now critically endangered. After going extinct (in the US) in the 1930s this breed was reintroduced in the 1980s using stock from Australia. If you have the opportunity to work with the fiber, raw or spun you will be in for a treat!

There is so much luster in the locks that they gleam. In addition to the fleeces luster, the staples are long and strong and can be worked up a variety of ways.

Fleece weight of 5 (1/2 year) – 18 (full year) lbs. With staple lengths of 5 (half year) to 14 (full year) inches and 32-38 microns.
