Border Leicester

The Border Leicester sheep breed dates back to 1767, designed by George and Matthew Culley in England with the purpose of being a dual breed sheep (meat and wool) and to ‘improve’ the Leicester breed. By 1920 767 Border Leicester’s were in the US (with rumors saying that they were introduced by George Washington).

With long lustrous locks, the fleece is prized by handspinners. The fleece is typically 8-12 lbs/year with 10-12 inch locks from 30 – 38 microns.
