Greene County Wool at the Butterfly Farm

Cydney Cornell and her husband and bought an antique farm in upstate New York and it was immediately apparent that this was once land for sheep and could be again!! They purchased a small starter flock from Marie Minnich, a breeder in Pennsylvania and are now breeding their own sheep.

Cydney is a knitter, spinner and fiber enthusiast and adores lambs. She loves that soft, warm, valuable fabric can come from a wonderful, beautiful, docile animal that simply eats grass and replaces the nutrients it takes from the earth. It feels right and harms nothing.

Their products are available at regional festivals and markets and through their website. In the early spring they offer fleeces, then have yarns mill spun, and then work on finished products for the fall markets. Cydney’s wish is for everyone to wear and appreciate the magic of wool. It is truly the most ethical option. Every aspect of raising sheep is gratifying. Knitting and creating are a form of meditation. She believes it is a naturally healthy, positive and productive way to use your brain and hands.

It is responsible to create something that can be worn for decades, not just one season. Family and friends love meaningful, handmade gifts too. Cydney is proud to offer a valuable product that is 100% American.
