Dorset Sheep

Dorset sheep were first introduced in the Americas, from England, in the mid to late 1800’s, and they are currently the most popular white-faced sheep in the USA. A medium build all-purpose sheep they are known for their meat, dairy, and fiber.

The fleece from a Dorset is very white, strong, full-handling, and springy, with a short staple length (2-4″) and fine fiber (27-33 microns). They produce a versatile wool that can be spun in a variety of ways and be turned into a variety of everyday goods from garments to blankets. Being that the fiber is a brilliant white, fiber from the Dorset sheep will take colors clearly.
